Applications Open for UNESCO-IHE’s Netherlands Fellowship Programmes

 Master of Science study programme at UNESCO-IHE and fellowship.

The UNESCO-IHE is seeking applications for its Netherlands Fellowship Programmes (NFP) with an aim to promote capacity building within organisations in 51 countries by providing training and education through fellowships for professionals.

UNESCO-IHE offers four accredited Master of Science programmes, with a total of 17 specializations.

Water Management – The scientific study of water resources with practical planning and management skills
Urban Water and Sanitation – Water supply, sanitation and water engineering and management, particularly in urban areas;

Environmental Science – Conservation and prudent use of natural resources for the benefit of society
Water Science & Engineering – Hydrological and hydraulic processes and modelling tools for improved water management in coastal zones, river basins and agricultural areas.

Benefits:

An NFP Fellowship covers all costs associated with completing an 18-month Master of Science study programme at UNESCO-IHE.

Eligibility:

Applicants:

  • must be a national of, and working and living in one of the countries on the NFP country list (mentioned below);
  • must have an employer’s statement that complies with the format Nuffic has provided. All information must be provided and all commitments that are included in the format must be endorsed in the statement;
  • must not be employed by an organisation that has its own means of staff-development. Organisations that are considered to have their own means for staff development are for example:
    • multinational corporations (e.g. Shell, Unilever, Microsoft),
    • large national and/or a large commercial organisations,
    • bilateral donor organisations (e.g. USAID, DFID, Danida, Sida, Dutch ministry of Foreign affairs, FinAid, AusAid, ADC, SwissAid),
    • multilateral donor organisations, (e.g. a UN organization, the World Bank, the IMF, Asian Development Bank, African Development Bank, IADB),
    • international NGO’s (e.g. Oxfam, Plan, Care);
  • must have an official and valid passport;
  • must not receive more than one fellowship for courses that take place at the same time;
  • must have a government statement that meets the requirements of the country in which the employer is established (if applicable)

Türkiye Scholarship


Candidates are required to meet the qualifications (GRE, GMAT, TOEFL, DELF, YDS, ALES, etc.) set by the universities and departments that can be selected through the application system. Candidates who do not have the required documents will not be considered for the scholarship.

Applications made by post or in person will not be accepted.

Candidates who will apply for a master’s degree must be born not earlier than 01.01.1987, whereas candidates for PhD degree must be born not earlier than 01.01.1982.

Candidates who will apply for Türkiye Scholarships must have graduated from an appropriate program with respect to the scholarship level they are applying for (e.g. have a university diploma if applying for a master program, or hold a master’s degree if applying for a PhD program), or be able to graduate at the end of the current academic year.

Turkish citizens and those who have lost Turkish citizenship for any reason cannot apply for Türkiye Scholarships.

Candidates cannot be currently enrolled in academic program in Türkiye at the level they will apply for.

Candidates are expected to have a required degree of academic achievement with respect to the scholarship and program level they are applying for (you may find the academic achievement grades required by scholarship programs at www.turkiyeburslari.gov.tr).

In the evaluation of applications, candidates’ compatibility with the application criteria, as well as their academic and social achievements will be considered.

The application system will automatically display the universities and departments that candidates can choose from according to their academic background. Candidates will not be able to select any universities and departments other than those provided by the application system.

The Public Affairs Section is pleased to announce that we are soliciting applications for two separate short-term study and exchange programs in the United States.  These study opportunities are part of our Study of the U.S. Institutes (SUSI) programs.  They are intensive undergraduate and post-graduate level academic programs whose purpose is to provide participants with the opportunity to deepen their understanding of United States’ society, culture, values, and institutions.  The ultimate goal of these Institutes is to strengthen curricula and to enhance the quality of teaching about the United States in secondary schools and academic institutions abroad.  The programs are 5-6 weeks in length, and will take place May-July 2017.  All programs require English fluency.  Family members cannot accompany a participant to the United States.  We encourage you to review the programs and their requirements, and to apply.  Interviews for finalist candidates will take place in Kabul in early January 2016.

Program Details

Study of the U.S. Institute for Student Leaders on Women’s Leadership (5-weeks)

Kabul Public Affairs Section (PAS) is soliciting applications from current female undergraduate university students for participation in a five-week U.S. exchange program: Study of the United States Institute for Student Leaders on Women’s Leadership.  Applicants must be currently-enrolled undergraduate students from Afghanistan, between 18 and 25 years of age, who are interested in the topic of Women’s Leadership and have at least one remaining semester of school after July 2017.  Program dates are June 27 to July 30, 2017.  Participants are expected to be highly motivated first through third year undergraduate female students from colleges, universities, and other institutions of higher education.  They should also demonstrate leadership through academic work, community involvement, and extracurricular activities.  All candidates must be proficient in English so that they can actively participate in the academic program.

Study of the U.S. Institute (SUSI) for Student Leaders is an intensive short term academic program whose purpose is to provide groups of undergraduate student leaders with a deeper understanding of the United States, while simultaneously enhancing their leadership skills.  The five-week program will consist of a balanced series of seminar discussions, readings, group presentations, and lectures.  The coursework and classroom activities will be complemented by educational travel, site visits, leadership activities, and volunteer opportunities within the local community.  The Institutes will include an academic residency component of approximately four weeks and a domestic study tour of approximately one week.  During the academic residency, participants will also have the opportunity to engage in educational and cultural activities outside the classroom.  The U.S. government will cover all participant costs, including travel, housing, meals and materials.

Study of the United States Institute for Professors and Scholars (6-weeks)

The Public Affairs Section is soliciting applications from experienced university faculty, scholars, and other related professionals for participation in a six-week U.S. exchange program: Study of the United States Institute for Scholars.  Topic-specific programs will be held on the following themes in U.S. Studies: Contemporary American Literature, Journalism and Media, Religious Pluralism in the United States, U.S. Culture and Society, U.S. Foreign Policy, and U.S. Political Thought.  Study of the U.S. Institutes for Scholars will take place at various colleges, universities, and institutions throughout the United States over the course of six weeks beginning in or after June 2016.  Each program includes a four-week academic residency component and up to two weeks of an integrated study tour.

The program will be held on the following themes:

  • Contemporary American Literature
  • Journalism and Media
  • Religious Pluralism in the United States
  • U.S. Culture and Society
  • U.S. Foreign Policy
  • U.S. Political Thought

Study of the U.S. Institutes for Scholars are intensive post-graduate level academic programs with integrated study tours whose purpose is to provide foreign university faculty and other scholars the opportunity to deepen their understanding of U.S. society, culture, values, and institutions.  The ultimate goal of these Institutes is to strengthen curricula and to enhance the quality of teaching about the United States in academic institutions abroad.

Priority will be given to candidates who have firm plans to enhance, update or develop courses and/or educational materials with a U.S. studies focus or component; who have no prior or limited experience in the United States; and who have special interest in the program subject areas as demonstrated through past scholarship, accomplishments, and professional duties.

The U.S. government will cover all participant costs, including travel, housing, meals and materials.
